I am installing a cisco based network with 3548s at access layer and 6506s at the collapsed core . I am using dual 6506s for redundant links from 3548s . I am using 4x1000BaseSx links between the two 6506s which are bundled together(Gigabit etherchannel) all the 3548 > 6506s links and the 6506 > 6506 link are ISL trunks . I plan to use PVST and to make one 6506 the root for some vlans and the other 6506 the root for the rest so that I can share the load accross the redundant links from 3548 > 6506s. And what I plan to do is to use HSRP for transparent layer 3 failover of the clients from one 6506 to the other in case of the failure of one of the 3548's uplinks. What I am confused about is this. STP will block one of the uplinks from 3548 > 6506 for each vlan. so how will the HSRP enabled vlan interfaces on the two 6506 switches will be able to negotiate HSRP ? Any clues ?
