Confederation and Aggregation in BGP:
    _____________________________

a) RFc 3065 talks of AS_CONFED_SET, which in my opinion, is used when we
aggregate
within a confederation and not in any other case. Please correct me if I am
wrong.

b) We have the following configuration:

Given three routers RA, RB, RC within a confederation.

      RA ------ RB --------- RC
                    |

We do aggregation at RB router with as_set option.
RB receives an update from RC. We inject a route also at RB.
 We aggregate both these routes.

In such a case, the BGP updates sent to RA,
should contain the AS_CONFED_SET in the AS_PATH attribute
apart from the usual AS_CONFED_SEQUENCE, is it However on our
Router (RB) it sends the AS_PATH within a Confed Sequence itself and not a
 Confed Set .

Further more if we put our Router at position RA, and send an as path
attribute with AS_CONFED_SET it rejects the update( Bad Attribute
List) and breaks the connection Which it should not ?

Are there any rules while sending AS_CONFED_SET in the ASPATH attribute?

Shishir
