hey Folks
My 2621 suddenly started dropping packets...with in a span of 30 minnutes i
will have like 35 input error , 35 CRC error and like 15 frame error.
I know the problem might be the ethernet port on the router ..or a kink on
my cable ? or the switch it is attached to.
I really want to compare note with anyone who has experience this.
the interface is Fastethernet 0/0 , the other fastethernet 0/1 is not like
that. no error what so ever...i am wondering what went wrong all of a sudden.
Kindly help please

I have a favor to ask of everyone.... We are trying to put a case
together to present to Cisco about the caller name ID. We were
promised this feature when we bought our system (2 years ago) and
still do not have this feature. We understand that Cisco is looking
at the Display IE filed and our Telco and any Telco in our area are
sending it in the Facility IE field.

What we want to do is get a list of people or companies that would
like to have this feature as well, and any info about lost sales
because this feature is not available. If you would like to send me
your name and email address I will put it on a list that will be sent
to Cisco.

Thank you,

Subject: HSRP VLAN Load Balancing [7:56689]

Here's a scenario I've been faced with recently and have a solution, but
wanted to get any other ideas somebody might have. The question calls for
this:

- - Configure cat1 and cat2 for layer 3 redundancy with HSRP for Vlan 5
- - Configure HSRP such that when both cat switches are available, traffic is
load balanced across both cat switches and when one is unavailable, the other
cat should take over all traffic from Vlan 5.

Here's my configuration idea:

Cat1:

Interface Vlan 5
ip address 150.50.5.5 255.255.255.0
standby 1 ip 150.50.5.100
standby 1 priority 150 preempt
standby 2 ip 150.50.5.200
standby 2 priority 155 preempt

Cat2:

Interface Vlan 5
ip addres 150.50.5.10 255.255.255.0
standby 1 ip 150.50.5.100
standby 1 priority 155 preempt
standby 2 ip 150.50.5.200
standby 2 priority 150 preempt

Cat1 will assume the role of the virtual IP 150.50.5.100 and Cat2 will assume
the role of virtual IP 150.50.5.200. One would then configure the default
gateways on the hosts. Half the hosts have 150.50.5.100 listed first as the
D.G. and the other half would have 150.50.5.200 listed first as the D.G.

Is there another way to do this?

Thanks,

Dale

Hi, all,

Can the 2500 series support 802.1Q? If so, what IOS version and feature set
would be needed?

I want to create some logical subinterfaces on the 2500 that correpond to
VLANs, as a way of segmenting traffic.

That is the way I used to do it at the ISP I used to work at...before the
layoffs...We had two 6509's linked together in a full-mesh and used a cfg
similar to what you have. If there is another way. I'd be interested in
finding out about it.

I don't think you can do that on a 10M interface. Has to be a fast ethernet
interface.

Hi,

I made a mistake making that statement. With the new IOS codes, 12.x, you can
create subinterfaces. :-O

It's not nice to "flame" an "active" member of the Bar who is still in "good
standing"!!!! Alzheimer's (Cisco type) may indeed be overtaking me here, but
my "legal" brain cells are still quite sharp. So "flame" me at your own
risk!!!!! Perhaps I can obtain "enuf" from a lawsuit to purchase an ISDN
simulator!!!!

Don't anybody take the above para in the wrong vein! I was simply having a
bad day (and then I had to take my grandchildren "trick or treating" for
hours -- while I searched through my Alzheimer-ridden brain cells to
identify a solution to my problem. Now back to my problem.

James,

Is that doable on a 2500 series router? Basically, I want to configure
something like this:

Switch has
VLAN 10
VLAN 20
VLAN 30

I want to set up 802.1Q trunking between the switch and 2500 such that:

VLAN10 goes to Ethernet 0.10
VLAN20 goes to Ethernet 0.20
VLAN30 goes to Ethernet 0.30

Just wanted to clarify what it is that I would like to do. I just wasn't
sure if the 2500 router support 802.1Q or if this can even be done.

TIA,

Charles

Sorry about not replying last nite -- I ran out of time and had to take my
grandchildren "trick or treatin'" -- but I appreciate all the input.

First -- I am not running an access list. I just got this router (2511) and
wanted to configure it, including upgrading the IOS (existing IOS 10.2(4)).
Thus, I first wanted to copy the flash to the tftp server. Apparently, this
is where I have gone wrong!!

With my advanced age as an "excuse" -- from hyperterminal I merely typed in
"copy flash tftp" and was unsucessful:

TermServer>enable
Password:
TermServer#copy flash tftp
System flash directory:
File Length Name/status
1 4404136 ij10240
[4404200 bytes used, 12373016 available, 16777216 total]
Address or name of remote host [GREG]?
Source file name? ij10240
Destination file name [ij10240]?
Verifying checksum for 'ij10240' (file # 1)... OK
Copy 'ij10240' from Flash to server
as 'ij10240'? [yes/no]y
.....
Copy aborted - TFTP timeout
TermServer#

This procedure has worked flawlessly for the past couple of years. The sole
difference in my network now is that I have installed a Linksys cable modem
and hub (100). That being said -- I wonder if Priscilla's last theory might
be the culprit. My cable-modem router runs NAT. SO I'll do some exploring
and investigating and get back to all of you later today.

'
Thanks again for the assistance. I know my question (at least at my level
of training) may seem dumb, but as a professor I used to tell my students,
"The only dumb question is the one that is NOT asked!!!" So be patient and
forgive me for my apparent lack of ability to resolve this issue myself!

Can't you just do a "clear arp" on the 6509? That's a commonly-used IOS
command. I would assume it works on the 6509. Or should I say ass-u-me it
works. :-)

What IP addresse are you using? What is acting as the TFTP server? Are you
sure it's running??

Well, the fact that you can type and the router is responsive proves that
HyperTerminal is working OK.
