Sounds to me like it's a NAT issue and not and issue with OSPF. When you perform a trace route from the Mail server, what address are you tracing to? It alomost sounds as though the NAT inside and outside configurations are backwards, but maybe I'm not totally clear as I try to draw this scenario. :-)
