indeed with L3 switching, we can more closely arrive at wire speed, but in the course of my practice, i seen L3 switches mainly interconnecting Lan's, yes a flexwan modul exists to interconnect wan's on the same box but usually we like to separate the lan's from wans for the sack of issolation and greater security implementation options.
