All,

I have just posted a call for participation in the Citizendium pilot
project, here: http://www.citizendium.org/cfa.html

You can do the project a great service by forwarding this call for
participation to persons and Internet communities you know and trust.

I have also posted the Citizendium's Statement of Fundamental Policies,
which I asked a few dozen people to comment about, and which is in a fairly
advanced state of development: http://www.citizendium.org/fundamentals.html

I'm still at work on the big policy document. I'll post it here when I have
a fairly complete draft, and pilot project participants will proceed to bang
away at it.

===========================
   Call for applications
   to participate in the
 Citizendium Pilot Project
===========================

http://www.citizendium.org/cfa.html

The Citizendium community will soon launch a private "alpha" pilot project,
which will last at least one month (and possibly two or three). Only
invited people will be able to view and edit the pilot project wiki.

Apply for an invitation now. Authors, editors, and constables all needed:

    * All contributors will have "author" rights on the Citizendium.
    * Editors will, probably, be self-identified, but at least for purposes
of the pilot project, we will be selecting editors from among the applicants
(and inviting some others as well). As a rule of thumb, editors in
traditionally "academic" fields will require the qualifications typically
needed for a tenure-track academic position in the field.
    * Our constables will be responsible for making good judgments that
directly affect the work and motivation of distinguished, serious
professionals. Therefore, they will have to give evidence (probably in the
form of Web links) that they are over 25 years old and have a bachelor's
degree, or (perhaps in rare cases) can demonstrate an equivalent level of
attainment in terms of learning and mature judgment.

Note: please do not apply unless you can endorse the Citizendium's Statement
of Fundamental Policies.

To apply, simply e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] a curriculum vitae or
resumé and a link to some information online that helps support the info in
your CV or resumé. (Best of all is simply a link to a CV or a detailed bio
that is hosted by an academic/corporate website.) Please title your mail
"CZ pilot project" and somewhere in your mail, please state: "I endorse the
Citizendium Statement of Fundamental Policies." Please specify whether you
are interested in being a constable or editor, and provide appropriate
evidence of your qualifications (see above).

All good faith applications will receive a response, but we cannot guarantee
participation to anyone.

Next steps. From among the applicants, we will ask a small (12-20) group of
people to spend a few days preparing the wiki for participation by a much
larger group of invitees. This preliminary work will happen within the next
7-10 days. Then, depending on the response to this call for applications,
we may eventually add people based on recommendations only. In any event,
we hope to get a few hundred people signed up to work on this pilot project,
before we go fully public with the project.
