Dear Editors and the CZ community generally,

How should we ramp up editor participation? That's what I want to discuss,
here:

In <http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ_Talk:Dispute_Resolution#Suggestions>
an interesting comment, Gareth Leng suggested that we allow authors to
nominate articles for approval. Within the same hour I got a mail from an
editor who said he'd like to be more active, but that he really didn't have
time for the technical questions the Editorial Council was taking up--so,
what should he do? Finally, it's been bothering me that our discussions of
workgroup questions and policy have been divided among the wiki, these
forums, and the (relatively new) mailing lists.

It occurs to me that editors are used to editing passively, as it were, and
a wiki is decidedly not a passive mode of content creation. So we need to
supplement the wiki--alert our editors to what's there.

Well, I suggest that if we do the following, we could increase editor
uptake:

(1) Ensure, in our processes, that all editors are subscribed (unless they
unsubscribe themselves) to the various
<http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ:Mailing_lists#Workgroups> workgroup
mailing lists.
(2) Shut down (archive) the various
<http://forum.citizendium.org/index.php?action=collapse;c=7;sa=expand#7>
workgroup forum boards. The reason for this is that most editors probably
want to receive work requests passively. They aren't motivated to navigate
to their forum on a regular basis.
(3) Allow anyone to nominate any status=1 article for approval.
(4) Any such nomination results in a notice being posted (at first, anyway,
by hand) on the relevant workgroup mailing lists.
(5) I write much clearer instructions about what editors should do when they
receive such a request--I'll be doing so very soon. (Note, everyone in the
workgroup receives the same requests.)

Anything else? Any other ways to ramp up editor participation?
