Let me clarify the proposal. Why do I want to move workgroup discussion to the mailing lists? I'd like to move that scant workgroup discussion from the workgroup (forum) boards to workgroup mailing lists.
The workgroup mailing lists can be found here: http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ:Mailing_lists#Workgroups Courtesy Louise Valmoria, thanks again Louise. The primary reason for this is to get approval requests before the eyes of editors in a more systematic way--a crucial missing element from our approval process, I think. Also, a "push" (as opposed to a "pull") method is more suitable for workgroup discussion, at this point, because it tends to raise general awareness of our ongoing activities among our own less-active contributors. There are a lot of not-so-active Citizens out there who might well become more active if they understood exactly how much is going on on the wiki. Finally, I suspect that many editors are just not interested in visiting Web forums. If they're part of something, they expect *you* to come to *them*: they're relatively passive that way. Not a few editors have asked me, essentially, "Why haven't I received any review requests yet?" You might think "they don't get it," but that's the wrong reaction--we ought to think about how to harness their energy. Moving to mailing lists might help. Generally, I'd like to establish a *single* main locus of discussion for each workgroup. If there's something the group should discuss--go to the mailing list. In fact, I'm also inclined, for this reason, to tell people on [[CZ Talk:X Workgroup]] to use the mailing lists. And to answer Greg's question: the physics board was moderated simply because I called for moderators, last winter, thinking that the workgroup boards might end up very active. As it turns out, they aren't (with the exception of Biology and maybe a few others). No moderator was needed, in fact. Discussion is ongoing here: http://forum.citizendium.org/index.php/topic,1211.0.html --Larry > -----Original Message----- > From: Woodhouse Gregory [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Friday, September 14, 2007 10:08 AM > To: Larry Sanger > Cc: Main Citizendium > Subject: Re: [Citizendium-l] Forums overhaul > > > Certainly , (2) makes a lot of sense.
