[This is important, please read]

All,

In summary: (1) there is very good reason for you to do a lot of work on the
wiki specifically in the next month, and (2) I will be stepping back from
day-to-day community management in order to concentrate on certain high
priorities.

I want to make a special request--I can't detail the grounds on which I am
making the request, but I'm a scrupulously honest person and I hope you will
trust me when I say that the information is specific, very big, and very
good news for us. I can say at least this much: a major opportunity is
possible, which could dramatically improve CZ and, if this opportunity
materializes, have a deep impact on both the publishing and academic worlds.
And please don't worry, all will be made clear soon enough and no decisions
will be made without extensive community input, as always.

This opportunity is why I am asking for an early holiday gift from you: for
the next month, work your hearts out on the wiki. Spruce it up. Make it
better than ever. Fill in the gaps. Finish the lists on [[CZ:Core
Articles]]. Finish the instructions and policy homepages for me :-).
Boldly update instructions pages. Make a list of main templates.
Constables, make sure we keep up with new applications. Tech & design
people, what happened to that new skin for the wiki?? Anyone, you can
organize an effort to make a better upper left logo and top-of-the-page
background image. Everyone, don't forget that recruitment is still one of
our initiatives, and just a small amount of effort on your part can be
repaid with many new people into the project. Get the word out about
Eduzendium to college teachers. Also, remember that the next three days are
still part of Stub Week. Be a leader. Take responsibility. Yes, I mean
you! It's your community! You have real power to make a real difference,
especially now, at what is both the beginning of this project, and what
could be a crucial turning point.

This extra work could spell all the difference when very important
decisionmakers look at the wiki--as they will be doing, soon.

For perhaps a month (?), I'm going to be stepping back from active
day-to-day management of the project so I can concentrate full time on
making the aforementioned opportunity happen, as well as move us "Toward CZ
2.0" as described last summer. I'll still be available via e-mail. One of
our trusted editors (not yet decided yet) will temporarily take over as
Temporary Managing Editor, handling the wiki-watching, cheerleading,
question-answering, and controversy management that I do. You will
definitely see evidence of my own effort, however (because sometimes it will
involve you), and as usual I will make no large changes without alerting you
and asking your input.

Thanks to everyone. It is looking more and more likely that your hard work
and good faith will be repaid in spectacular dividends.

P.S. "Power users" and geeks: I have several thousand e-mails I would like
to have sent out, but addressed from [EMAIL PROTECTED] I've got the
list compiled but no time to actually send the mails, which could be done,
e.g., with a mail merge program--but would take a long time. Is anyone
interested in helping me with this? It could really boost activity on the
wiki, and I'd be greatly appreciative! I'd send you the addresses, the
list, and detailed instructions. (Of course, I'll have to be able to trust
you. :-) ) Please let me know.
