Please read the job description. These positions reports to the Production support manager who is responsible for managing the activities required to provide day to day support of the non production and production environments of various NTEC systems. In this position the candidates will assist in performing rotational on call duties required to support the production platform on a 7 x 24 basis, daily verifications of the applications, installation of new code deployments and the establishment of monitoring and recovery procedures. Additionally the candidate will work in the non production environments performing various code deployments, establishment of new servers, research of production issues, developing release activities and coordinating the schedules of various support groups as required. Candidates must be flexible enough to work independently and resolve issues associated with production and non-production working with a team comprised of members from multiple organizations inside and out of the Information Technology organization. This is NOT a development or system administrator position however strong knowledge of either of those roles is a plus. The candidate will not support the servers OS nor perform code changes. § Application Production Support with 24x7 Support of mission critical applications. § Write and Maintain scripts to monitor system activity, including application logs. § Debug production issues and report back to customers in a timely manner. § Manage all production release work. § Manage all scheduled jobs; including pre-production testing, production staging, production monitoring. § Install application upgrades on test environments. § Monitor performance testing environment during load tests. § Debug issues on testing servers to provide a stable environment to testing teams. § Liaison between development and customer groups. § Liaison between DBAs and customer groups. § Manage all new server acquisitions and builds, working with Verizon system administrators. Skills: Previous experience in production/application support is a plus. • Ability to navigate a UNIX environment (cd, ls, grep, more, vi). • Ability to write shell scripts. • Ability to clearly document shell script functionality and processes. • Willingness to carry a pager with 5 minute response time. • Ability to coordinate activities across groups (development, testing, client, DBA). • Familiarity with web-based, mainframe, VAX and or unix applications. • Willingness to learn quickly and become an independent contributor to the team. • Ability to work both independently and within a team-oriented environment • Must be flexible and possess the ability to work in an environment with aggressive and changing deadlines • Strong analytical and problem solving skills • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to manage tasks in a simultaneous fashion. • Must be flexible to work in high pressures high stress situations Requirements: Candidate must have 4 -8 years production or application support, system administrative or similar experience.. A Bachelors degree in Information Systems or a related field is the minimum educational requirement and a Master Degree in Computer Science or Telecommunications is a plus. Project Management experience is also a plus. Additional Requirements: Be able to work a flexible work schedule which may include weekends and after normal hours during the work week. Experience and understanding of any area within Verizon Service Delivery Functions is a plus.
