*Title**: Sr. Database Administrator (SQL Server)*

*Location**: Phoenix, AZ*

*Duration**: 6+ Months*

*Client**: Apollo Group*



*Required Knowledge, skills & abilities*

·         A thorough knowledge and understanding of the technical
environments as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor's
degree in computer science or a related field.

·         Must have sufficient educational background and/or experience to
qualify incumbent to work on most phases of database administration.

·         Four-six years of database management experience or experience in
a related field is preferred.

·         Significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used
concepts, practices and procedures within the database management field is
required.

·         Should have SQL Server administration experience

·         Must have Data warehouse administration experience

·         Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to
effectively interact with internal and external customers and department
staff, as described above.

·         Must posses the ability to communicate well with others, to
perform work in a team environment, direct and act as a resource for less
experienced network administrators and relay necessary information as
appropriate



*Primary Accountabilities*

·         Designs logical and physical databases or reviews description of
changes to database design to understand how changes to be made affect
physical database in terms of physical characteristics, location, amount of
space and access methodology.

·         Assists management in the development of long term strategic
plans as related to future system growth.

·         Codes complex database descriptions and specifies identifiers of
database to database management system or directs others in coding database
descriptions.

·         Calculates optimum values for database parameters such as amount
of computer memory to be used by database. Assists management with system
backup and recovery.

·         Specifies user access level for each segment of one or more data
items such as insert, replace, retrieve or delete data. Also specifies
which users can access databases and what data can be accessed by users.

·         Selects and enters codes of utility programs to monitor database
performance such as distribution of records and amount of available memory.

·         Confers with team members to determine impact of database changes
on other systems and staff cost for making changes to database. Assists
management with system backup and recovery.

·         Modifies database complex database programs to increase
processing performance or tuning. (May direct less experienced database
administrators in this capacity. )

·         Provides direction and support and assists in the training of
less experienced database administrators to orient them and increase their
understanding of more complex database management operations.

·         Maintains and increases professional and technical knowledge by
attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing
personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

·         Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

·         May lead or manage large, complex projects. May lead and act as a
resource for less experienced database administrators.
