*Position: Help Desk * *Location: Woods Hole, MA* *Duration: Long Term* C.1.1.3. SCOPE - The contractor assigned to this Work Statement will serve as an IT specialist in a team atmosphere who's primary function will be to provide technical expertise and support to 'end-users' while staffing the Center's IT Help Desk. Strong interpersonal skills are a must when working with scientists and operational staff at the Center. As skill-sets are developed over time, the incumbent may be requested to assist senior IT specialists with the Center's IT Infrastructure needs. C.1.1.4. Purpose of Work :Function as an integral part of the Center's IT Help Desk support team; provide a broad range of technical support to computer end-users at the Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science RFQ 953968 Page 5 of 12 Center; support IT infrastructure operations (as required). C.1.1.5. Desktop support includes but is not limited to: Providing fix-on-failure response for computers, printers, and large scale plotter equipment and their peripherals; loading peripheral equipment to computers; monitoring computer and printer/ plotter equipment; reporting and resolving technical issues that may arise; and providing endpoint management with software updates and security patches working under the guidance of the senior Patch Manager IT Specialist. C.1.1.6. Infrastructure support will include but is not limited to (as required): Once certain skill-sets are developed, the incumbent will be expected to assist senior IT specialists (as directed) with the deployment, configuration, and problem remediation of network switches, server installations, storage devices, security appliances and firewalls, as well as virtualization infrastructure. C.1.1.7. Background and Scope of Work: The IT department maintains a highly available computing environment consisting of servers, storage, networking, and computers to meet the needs of the scientific, operational, and administrative research staff. The science mission is supported by IT group operations that continually review, enhance, trouble-shoot problems, and improve the computing resources that are shared by the Center's research projects. C.1.2. WORK REQUIREMENTS - Technical Requirements: The contractor will be required to possess a minimum of 1 year of on the job, or in the classroom, experience in support of desktop computers and their peripherals in a heterogeneous computing environment, pursuant to but not limited to items 1-7 under Specific Skills section below. In depth knowledge of Windows 7 is required. A working knowledge of Windows 8, Windows Server 2003,Server 2008, Server 2012, Mac OS X, and Ubuntu or Red Hat Linux is desired but not required. Working in a team environment, the contractor will also have to perform multidisciplinary tasks and provide timely support to end users on a variety of scientific, operational, and administrative computing issues; must be able to work as an individual contributor on a technical team; must be self-motivated to identify, research, and resolve technical problems. Technical problems may pertain to operating systems, computer hardware, local area network devices and/or connectivity, server hardware, and other infrastructure related to the IT group operations. Success will depend on the contractor's ability to develop a broad scope of skills in order to work independently with many different platforms and varying knowledge levels of end-users and their needs, along with providing intergraded solutions to resolve a multitude of different issues. Symantec Endpoint Protection C.1.3. SUPPORTING INFORMATION C.1.3.1. Place of Performance: All work shall be performed on-site at the WHCMSC Quissett Campus, Telework following Government guidelines may be considered. However, the incumbent will be primarily expected to work on-site due to the •customer-based' nature of the job requirements. In addition, the candidate may be required to travel to Reston, or other locations in response to new IT mandates/procedures. C.1.3.2. Period of Performance: The period of performance will be one year from the time of the award of the contract with the option to renew. There may be a need to extend the contract as the needs of IT project(s) evolve and change. C.1.3.3. Government Furnished Property: The incumbent will be using facilities in an existing office in conjunction with other USGS employees and contract hires. The incumbent will be provided with a government furnished desktop. The incumbent may be provided with a cell phone and laptop for offsite and after hour use in support of IT operations (if warranted). C.1.3.4. Special Considerations: Data and software and techniques and processes are to be public. C.1.3.5. Security/Privacy Issues: All established security standards and practices for Department of Interior and USGS will be adhered to by the incumbent. Contractor employees assigned to this task will be required to have an appropriate background investigation check. This background check will be accomplished by the contractor and must be completed before the contractor is issued a temporary identification badge. C.1.3.6. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary. Some work may occasionally require: moderate lifting and carrying 15-44 lbs, straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers; intermittent walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, climbing using legs and arms; near vision correctable at 13" to 16: to Jaeger 1to 4, ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); and operates a government motor vehicle as an occasional driver. C.1.3.7. Work Environment: The work environment is primarily lighted, heated, and ventilated adequately and involves everyday risks of discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Work is preformed primarily inside, but may require work to be performed outside; Incumbent may be exposed to dust, fumes, smoke or gases; exposed to electrical energy and electrical hazard (shock); and exposed to intermittent noise when working in the IT server Room. C.1.3.8. Conduct: Contractor will be expected to adhere to all relevant DOI and USGS Code of Conduct, Ethics, Behavior Rules, Regulations, and Agency Guidelines.
