Usually this error is due to php not handling sessions correctly.
Some combinations of php 4.2 and apache have a bug that may cause
weird things, or your php configuration isn't setup correctly in the
.ini file, this is usually more true with windows installations where
it can be setup to store the session to a folder specified by php and
the folder isn't there.  The other possibility is that your browser
has cookies turned off, though most browsers have that on by default
these days.
