  The single character of ligature can display under UTF-8
  environment only(text mode). And pdftotext -enc UTF-8 will
  output ligature form(single character in UTF-8) and ascii
  form(`fi' is two characters).

  But I don't think xpdf support ligature completely yet, so use
  acroread if you need correct text output and searching results.

  Of course, this is nothing to do with LaTeX CJK.:)
