Bonjour!

They do indeed contain HBF fonts, which are ugly bitmap fonts. I would suggest you use the Arphic fonts with Fontforge or ttf2tfm. I prefer the Fontforge way, which will give you superior results, uses scalable fonts instead of bitmap PK fonts and will show the Chinese glyphs at once when you view or print the DVI. But if you wish to compile all the four Arphic fonts, then you'll have to leave your computer on for a night because it requires *a lot* of CPU power. ttf2tfm OTOH will create the TFM files in a few seconds, but MakeTeXPK will have to create the PK fonts every time you view/print Chinese characters in your DVI file that haven't been created by MakeTeXPK before. It will take more time to install the Arphic fonts (if your TeX distribution doesn't provide this already) but they're surely worth the effort. > In the CJK distrib, I have found: > > READMEgb.pdf: looks as an installation guide but written in Chinese. > The problem is that I do not understand Chinese enough to use it. > INSTALL: looks like a checklist implying some installation steps but > not precise enough to replace an install dolist. > > On the editor side, I use emacs 22.0.50.1, the MacOS X jp carbon > distrib, I can easily type Chinese characters. Unpack the fonts in /usr/local/share/texmf/fonts/hbf/, update the TeX tree with "texhash" and if you have c10fs.fd somewhere in your TEXMF path, then you can use these HBF fonts with: \begin{CJK}{GB}{fs} ... \end{CJK} Make sure you're using GB2312 as encoding if you go for the HBF jfs56 fonts. To create the Arphic fonts, have a look at the CJK mailing list archive. You'll find a few step-by-step examples there. You'll also be able to use UTF-8 as well if you choose this way. Another way would be to install TeXlive, which comes with the Arphic fonts already.
