Which distribution do you use (TeXlive/teTeX/cTeX; Debian GNU/Linux/MikTeXL/...)? And have you built the fonts with Fontforge (which results in Type1 .pfb fonts) or with ttf2tfm? Did you build the fonts with the new Unicode.sfd file that supports characters beyond U+FFFF? Could you provide a *minimal* example file?
