Dear Werner, list,

I am obviously new to the topic and am at a loss as to where to look for
the fault (and life is tough for a CJK newbie!).
I installed, with the help of a friend, the AdobeSongStd-Light.otf. I
understand this to be unorthodox, as no Type 1 is be involved. Whether
that might be of importance I am not sure.

I noted that the PDF file (attached) my system generated is much smaller
than yours.
I further attach my log file and a tree output of my ~/texmf which I
hope to be useful.

I would highly appreciate if you could guide me in the right direction
to solve the problem. Above all I hope to understand what (and why) is
going on.

Thanks for your kind help!

Guba

I was made aware of \usepackage{CJKutf8} the other day, which works
like a charm. However, when I add \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} to the
mix, my western font turns seriously ugly (though not faulty).

I can't repeat that.

I also can't copy and paste correctly with or without
/usepackage[T1]{fontenc} activated (I use dvipdfmx).

I can't repeat this either.

Attached is what I get with T1 font encoding; I use the current SVN
version of TeXLive -- it contains dvipdfmx version 20061211 and CJK
version 4.7.0.
