The HanNOM fonts, are these the TTF made by Sun HaiFeng? http://sunhaifeng.net/SunWb/ I have them as well, but am not sure about the license. Is it redistributable, and can people freely modify his fonts? For the Debian build process, I'd like to stick to the source font, and let the computer build the font from scratch each time. I prefer to have pristine sources. However, I'll use your suggestion when I have to rebuild the font packages for myself to check out a few things.
