Hi Toni,
I'm the one that made the remark about PETA types.. based on the quote at
the bottom of your post and your remarks. Sorry if you are indeed and in
fact opposed to PETA...many well meaning but uneducated (uninformed) people
support PETA.
There are pet owners, dog breeder's,dog fanciers and I would guess even
Cavalier "people" that believe what they hear regarding PETA and will do so
until the end of time.
I'm sorry that you don't understand that AKC is doing all they can do to
discourage the mass production of puppies. (puppy mills)
We may believe AKC is making poor decisions in their battle but they are
doing something.
We have laws in this country that protect puppy mills and while we can are
saddened by that fact we can also applauded it because those very same laws
protect us dog breeders.
If we begin to behave as intelligently and as courtly as some of the millers
we're going to find ourselves in very big trouble.
That is without our sport and perhaps without our pets.
And as far as registries..do a search on yahoo, excite etc..read the
classified and read (in horror) that our breed is selling fast and furious
and for large amounts of money...and the are not registered AKC or CKCSCUSA.

Did someone on this list refer to themselves as PETA? I didn't read that
anywhere. I do recall making a statement in my post in reference to Carol's
comments about "us PETA types", but if you inferred from that remark that I
was referring to me, you missed the meaning entirely.
As far as blame goes, there is plenty of blame to go around when it comes to
puppy mills. I don't believe any one on this list is saying the AKC is to
blame because puppy mills exist. The point was made that the AKC doesn't
support puppy mills. I disagreed, and will continue to disagree until what
the AKC says in public forums begins to jive with what the AKC DOES. And
just like you, I'm entitled to my opinion, which isn't based on what other
people tell me, but what I witness firsthand many, many times a year. IF
the
AKC is able to single-handedly shut down thousands of millers a year, as has
been alleged, why are there still millers?
As far as dog registries, which registry is the one the buying public is
most
familiar with and most inclined to trust? It's going to take more than just
the AKC stepping up to enforcement, and we all know this. But my goodness,
here is a registry that has tremendous clout, money and consumer appeal.
Because of that standing, actions by the AKC could make a huge difference.
And while I'M at it, I was delineating between the Cavalier parent club of
the AKC, and the agency as a whole. I think everyone else pretty much
understood that. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear enough for you.
