Hi Jo Anne,
I noticed that Pam Moesinger was good enought to post the WDJ's Best In Bags
for 2001. I am reposting the list for 2000 as it contains a short list of
foods that are specificaly NOT RECOMMENDED as well.
All the Best,
Susan Van Luchene

For those of you who may have missed this when I posted it here is the Whole
Dog Journal's list of the best dry dog food from 2000. The folks at WDJ
base their selections on a review of the ingredients and Guaranteed Analysis
on the food label. They do not conduct lab tests to make sure the
Guaranteed Analysis printed on the label accurately reflects the contents
(this is the job of the state feed control officials and way beyond the
scope of their resourses). They do ,however, make every effort to tack down
products made by companies that make (or claim to make) "premium" or
"natural" products and then scrutinize the ingredients and Guaranteed
Analysis for each.

A few things that high quality foods should NOT contain ,according to the
WDJ, are "Generic" fats or proteins (animal fat for example could be
anything including recycled grease from restaurants!),Artificial
preservatives (including BHA, BHT, or Ethoxyquin), Artificial colors,
Propylene glycol and sweeteners.

**For those of you who were asking specifically about Iams, it did make the
NOT RECOMMENDED LIST.**
