I had a friend with a dog she took in as a rehome that lost most of the
function of his jaw. Could maybe only open it 20% from age 3 on. They
honestly never did figure out what the cause was - one thing mentioned by the
vets was Rocky Mtn Tick Fever. If they live in a wooded area they might check
for that in blood work. This dog was on medicine all his life including
steroids but he lived to be about 10 years old and was the sweetest boy in
the world.
