Well.......I mow the area around where the pregnant girl (and
eventually pups) go out very short and try to keep it dry out there even
if the grass dies off a bit. I let the girl out before dawn (have you
noticed that you and I are both up early? <G>) and then when there is
direct sun (tends to discourage mesquitoes). This isn't fool proof by
any means, but for sure it statistically reduces exposure to that
disease vector. If I could afford it at the moment, I would get the
huge mesquitoe zapper and put it at the OTHER end of my yard. That
would help a lot. Additionally, while most folks love to have litters
at this time of the year, I'd rather have one in the Fall when disease
vectors are less. It is really too very bad that heartworm and Lyme is
in our area.
