I did the exact same thing you did when we got our first Cavalier. I had
never owned a dog- my husband had but only "free" ones. I first was
looking at cockers. I found a good breeder that was selling them for
around $500. My husband right away said NO! I talked and talked and
eventually got him to agree to paying $500. Then in doing more research,
I came across the Cavalier. I read everything I could find and knew it
was the only dog I wanted. Of course, my 1st (and maybe only ? at first)
was How much? I didn't ask anything else as why waste someone's time if
I can never get one? My husband about fainted when I told him around
$1200. Somehow he got over it, we now own 2, and he has stated many
times he will never own another breed. (I have also heard him telling
people "You get what you pay for" :-) So don't give up on people who ask
about price up front- we mean no disrespect, and we may end up being a
wonderful home!
