Hi Jackie,

You are correct these prepared raw diets are expensive. I use a prepared raw
diet about 50% of the time on a rotational basis. I feed a prepared raw diet
and alternate it with Canidae w/add ins (occasionally I mix sardines in as a
treat) and raw chicken necks or wings and raw muscle and/or organ meat
(chicken thigh meat, gizzard, hearts & liver are the ones I use most often).
My "add ins" remain are added regardless of what I am feeding. These consist
of 1 tsp. flaxseed oil or Missing Link, 1 tsp Norwegian Kelp Vegetarian
Blend, 1 heaping Tablespoon fresh veggie mix with fresh garlic and 200 iu.
Natural vitamin E (this is per dog). I make my veggie mix in my Cuisinart
Mini Chop using such veggies as carrots, parsley & garlic, broccoli, or
caulifower, carrots & garlic, or green beans & garlic, etc..

I read somewhere, I think it may have been on the Steve's Real Food Website,
that feeding raw even 25% of the time is thought to be beneficial to canine
health.

The prepared diets I use are AFS and Steve's Real Food.

My dogs seem to adore having a varied menu and are always eager to see
'what's for dinner'. I believe that feeding a variety of foods may be
beneficial because what they may be missing with one particular meal,
hopefully, they will be getting in another and overall they will be getting
adequate amounts of everything they need on balance (if not on a daily
basis).

All the best,
Susan V.
