I'm always on the lookout for educational material that I can hand out at the shelter. There's a wealth of educational material out there for us adults so I'm always especially excited when I can find material geared for children.
Recently, I ordered a dog safety video from the AKC and the order desk person told me about a coloring book that the AKC makes available, free of charge, to humane societies, animal controls, breed clubs, etc. I went a head and ordered some (they will send 100 maximum per order - 2 packages of 50.) They came today and I will have to say I'm impressed with them. The little book, entitled "Bailey's Purebred Dogs Coloring Book" is not breed-specific and doesn't have any pictures of Cavaliers, but it does have good, basic responsible dog ownership information, written on a child's level. My thought is that they might be great to have on education tables at dog shows, fun matches, at "meet a breed" functions etc. So many times we have lots of educational material for adults at such functions, but rarely anything to put in children's hands. Anyway, I just thought I'd share. I did verify with the AKC that they won't ship the books to individuals, but will ship them to breed clubs, etc. for educational use. If any AKC Club affiliates are interested, the coloring books can be ordered by calling the AKC (919) 233-97670. Not sure whether they can be ordered from the website or not, I didn't check.
