The parents of your potential puppy should be at least 2-1/2 yrs. old and
free of heart murmors.  You ask the breeder to show you written proof that
these 2 have been certified clear by a cardiologist.  Then you ask to see
the same for the grandparents (should be about 5 yrs) of your potential
puppy.  If you insist on this and don't just take anyone's word, then you
should have a better than average chance of having a heart healthy puppy.
And yes, you're right, chances are puppy will develop a heart murmor at some
time in its life but hopefully it will be late onset (after 5 yrs of age)
and slow progessing.
