I have received several different, very interesting, private posts from people about this condition. I want to point out that hydrocephalus is not the same thing as having an open fontanel. My puppy has an open fontanel, and from what I know, that often goes along with hydrocephalus. Conversely, having an open fontanel does not mean that you have hydrocephalus, often they close on their own. Puppies with hydrocephalus usually look different, have a more domed skull, very wide set eyes, look unthrifty (very small), etc. I have attached a link to an interesting article I found on canine hydrocephalus. I will say, that since this little girl is totally asymptomatic, I will not put her down, as suggested. She is potty trained at 12 weeks, runs, eats, plays, knows her name and some other commands, etc. She deserves to have a life until she loses quality of that life. http://www.upei.ca/~cidd/Diseases/nervous%20system%20disorders/hydrocephalus.htm I still look forward to your private replies on your own experience. By private, I mean just that, it will stay that way, I will not be passing your name along to anyone!
