I don't do hotels with AKC shows because I get enough of that with CKCSC shows! In fact I rarely travel more than an hour to an AKC show more than a few times a year and almost never travel farther than 2 hours. I have camped at the Steel Valley Cluster a couple of times but that was only $15 a day--almost cheaper than the gas to drive back and forth.
A couple of my dogs have cost about $400 or $500 to finish--including entry fees, parking, gas, tolls and food. I have one that cost about $1000 to finish. About 5 others are 1/2 to 2/3 of the way to their championships--none of which has cost more than $400 so far. Another was shown at 9 shows and has both majors and 11 points but never shown again due to my son getting sick--I only spent about $300 on her in total. Really not bad at all. I spend $500 to $1000 on EACH CKCSC specialty weekend--considerably more expensive ($1000 if I fly). However this last weekend due to circumstances I could not make the whole weekend and drove up on Sunday only--treating it like an AKC show. That show cost me less than $150 total and it was well worth it! I don't use handlers so I save a lot of money that way. Takes longer to finish sometimes because of other handlers but is not too bad. I love attending the cluster shows unfortunately which is where the handlers are and where it is very hard to win, so I'm sure I waste some money--but once in a while I win anyway! Anyhow, most cost only about $500 to finish. I think that is going to change soon though--the entry fees have skyrocketed this year and I have been paying up to $30 an entry!
