Last week on our way to the Cavalier of the Northeast Fun Match we were in a serious
automobile accident with our vehicle totaled and the 3 occupants along with the 2
occupants of the other vehicle went to the hospital. I was in the back seat of our
minivan and we had taken the middle seat out enabling us to put a large wire crate in
the middle along with my tack box and a couple of wire suitcase crates to set up at
the venue. The force of the crash caused me to be thrown forward against the
seatbelt causing contusion to my abdomin wall and caused my legs to go into the wire
crate and the tack box. My one leg pushed the wire crate in about 3/4 of the way and
my other knee pushed the metal tack box in a good 1 inch or more, which caused injury
to my knee. I put aside my pain at the accident to literally rip apart the wire
crate to get the dogs out. With the extra crates I was able to put them in a crate up
on a hill at the side of the road. I had my mother taken by rescue to the hospital
while I waited with the dogs for my friend's husband to come for the dogs. He then
took my friend, who was a passenger, and me to the hospital to be checked out. We
were there for almost 4 hours and he stayed the whole time and kept checking on the
dogs. I am very fortunate to have friends who not only dropped everything for us on
Saturday, but to then loan us their 3rd vehicle to drive back to Massachusetts. I
will be out of the ring until my leg heals. I have a personal plea to you all -
PLEASE ALWAYS CRATE YOUR DOGS IN THE CAR!!! If my dogs were not crated they would
have been seriously injured if not killed. Also if possible keep an extra crate in
the car. If I didn't have the extra crate I would have been standing on the side of
the road with the dogs on leashes trying to take care of everything. So please
remember my plea as you never know when you will get in an accident - we sure weren't
expecting to.
