There was a discussion on a oBSD-Mailinglist.
So I think (and some guys on the mailinglist too) that you COULD switch!
You've to remove ALL GPLed patches so that there's only the original
code.
Then you've to rewrite the patches/addons and from this moment forward
never accept patches with a GPL-License.

That is what I just said.

With a BSD-License clamAV could also cooperate with the
BSD-distributions. And the BSDs have good skilled coders.

There is no reason BSD's cannot include clamav (most do by way of the ports tree).

Btw, If you find coders to replace the GPL code with BSD code, then
why not just start your own project.

Couse I wont start my own project. I can't replace a Tomasz if I replace some parts of the code. I can't replace a Christoph or a Luca. I can't...

So offer to buy the unmodified clamav code under the terms of the BSD license.

But I can try to help this project to be more and more sucessful. I spende virii, well. I offer to reactivate old contacts so that clamAV could get the newest virii earlier and maybe with source if that helps. I could think about things like the license and whatcould happen when clamAV changes it to BSD(like)-License. but I can't think what the team thinks about GPL. So I offer it couse I think clamAV could be more succesful in the future.

If you want to help the clamav project, start submitting bugs and patches, or money.

Let's turn the clock 1 year forward: Maybe clamAV will be the standard
AV on Solaris, the BSDs, AIX...?
It's possible with a BSD-License but I think it isn't possible with GPL.

Why not? Think Gnome.

And if you're a standard I think there're some guys at sun or ibm who
help the project.

No reason for them not to help at current. If it would make IBM and Sun money, they would support it regardless of license, as we have already seen from both vendors.

That's the way the BSDs are still living. And each BSD is older as
LINUX or a GPLed project.
every big thing, every standard in the net is BSD.

GPL is the socialist system. People who honestly want to give something away for _ANY_ use will chose BSD. People who want to restrict usage will choose GPL.

Or did you tried to make a GPLed RFC standard? I think it won't be
reality even it's the best solution on planet earth. :)
