I don't suppose there is a way to query the freshclam daemon for status? That would be nice for writing a Nagios plugin to monitor it. The query could return the last exist status and the date/time of last update (or seconds since then). Maybe the number of virus defs?
Just a thought that occurred to me when I read the discussion of daemontools.
