I had the same problem using clamav-0.67 in combination with Amavis and Sendmail. It seemed a problem with decoding large ZIP files. When a relatively small ZIP-file contained a large text document (so it had been compressed very much) then Clamav had a problem processing it.
I received the same timeouts.
