I modified this: OnAccessRetryAttempts 3

On Access is running. Not running any other scans currently.

# ps -ef|grep clam

/etc/clamd.d/scan.conf
root 286357 1 0 13:35 ? 00:00:02 /usr/sbin/clamonacc
--fdpass --log=/var/log/clamonacc -F --config-file=/etc/clamd.d/scan.conf

Ah - disclaimer: I don't use on-access scanning so I'm groping a bit.

Have you set

OnAccessRetryAttempts

in clamd.conf? It defaults to zero, and you might just get away with it if you
set it to some low value. But it seems to me that there may be more than one
issue. Have you checked whether the clamd daemon is running reliably? That
would be my first concern, as it takes quite a while for it to start up - and
if for some reason it dies frequently while you're doing a filesystem scan or
if you're scanning many files on access then you might expect failures while
it's starting back up.
Having said that, I've found clamd extremely reliable, at least in the ways
that I use it (purely for scanning mail, which is nothing like so intensively
as scanning filesystems, nor even as on-access scanning in an active
filesystem).

It would probably help if we could see your configuration. What parts of the
filesystem are you scanning on access? Are you scanning both on-access and
(concurrently) otherwise?
