I'm not sure we should get into putting class files into autoconf scripts, though. I'm minded simply to accept HJ's patch rather than do that.
If the libtool maintainers upstream appreciate our needs and are willing to do so, I think this is a much better solution. The language spec files can play tricks with linker options, that could be of interest to the libtool configuration process.
