There is now an HTTP client in inetlib. It provides an API similar to the neon WebDAV/HTTP client.
It can do HTTPS, and Basic and Digest authentication, and can handle the chunked transfer-coding and keep-alive connections.
There are also URLStreamHandlers for the http and https URL schemes which use this client and can be used as a plug-in replacement for gnu.java.net.protocol.http. The URLConnection permits WebDAV methods to be issued.
