After further investigation, the problem appears to be related to loading
shared object libraries. To the best of my knowledge, it is not caused JamVM
nor Classpath. I'm closing this report w/ resolution = INVALID accordingly.

For the record, the scant info I can find points to modifications of zlib code
in the kernel between 2.6.17 and 2.6.18. See:
