I've seen the "too short" message with a few online CAs because some of
them require either more fields than CCA provides, or different
formatting (ie for the common name instead of just "cam.domain.com" some
want cn=cam.domain.com".

I just renewed my CERT with Verisign. They gave me my old CSR I used
originally because I forgot what it was. I was able to renew with just
that.
