--------- Forwarded message ---------- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Support Anti-War Protestors in Cleveland- 3 facing felonies!
Five protesters were arrested at Friday’s demonstration in Public Square. Downtown was entirely shut down for hours as protesters boldly marched the streets in the face of massive police presence in riot gear. Defying the police state climate created by the city’s armed enforcers, WE WERE NOT SILENT, WE WERE NOT TAME, BECAUSE THIS WAR ON IRAQ IS NOT IN OUR NAME!!!! Charges against the protesters include felonious assault on a police officer, obstructing justice, aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Witnesses to the arrest say that certain people were singled out as leaders and one woman was arrested for taking pictures of police. It is critical that we support those who were arrested—They, along with the 7 previous anti-war protestors in Cleveland, represent all of us! In the Plain Dealer, in reference to Friday’s protest, Mayor Jane Campbell was quoted saying “When protests for peace become fraught with violence, the real message gets lost.” To this we have to say: A: WHO are the violent aggressors here?? The US government’s criminal war of aggression in Iraq is ENTIRELY “fraught with violence”. The City of Cleveland’s ugly display of police, mounted enforcers, motorcycle cops, riot cops, swat teams, tac squads and undercover agents all chomping at the bit and making every attempt to silence protest is DISGUSTINGLY “fraught with violence”. The anti war activity AND the successful shutdown of downtown Cleveland was courageous, uplifting and ENTIRELY JUSTIFIED. B: The “real message” is abundantly clear---WE DO NOT WANT THIS WAR AND WE MEAN IT!!!! SHOW YOUR SUPPORT! · Call City Hall and the Chief of Police and Tell them to drop all the charges against ALL Cleveland anti-war protestors!
