Dear friends,
This Saturday I am asking you to bring any candles you have to the peace
witness this Saturday. The flames will represent the stand we take for life
and for life lost. This is in addition to any thing else you feel led to
hold.
I try to imagine what it would feel like to go to bed hearing bombs drop
and shattering explosions afterwards. Or to wake up to buildings in flames.
I try to imagine what it would be like to want to walk across the
Detroit-Superior Bridge - a bridge I use almost every day - and find it in
ruins. I try to imagine what children feel and internalize when they look
in the face of war.
I hate using my imagination this way and yet I need to feel family to
those who are suffering because I find family seeks help with the deepest
heart and the greatest urgency.
With you, I feel many emotions at this time. However, the one I am most
in touch with is the grief I feel for our citizens and the citizens of Iraq.
Perhaps I'll see you Saturday.
