If you ever look at a glibc build log, they make heavy use of those
switches.  That's why a glibc build is basically fully self-contained.

Issuing those switches seems pretty hairy unless you've got a really
good grasp on the build.  I've thought about it before, but never
pursued it.  It just seems like those values would change continuously
during the toolchain build.  Maybe if Ryan sees this he'll say
something.  I'm pretty sure he and Greg looked at every possibility in
the PLFS days.

If you end up trying it out, I'd love to hear the story. :)
