Most x86 embedded systems don't use the bzImage. Thats' why we have stuck with the standard vmlinux. I've been testing on a lot of x86 RaQ's and some other x86 devices, none of them work with the standard boot loaders and the firmware boots the kernel directly. Which in some cases the bootloader itself is linux. Look at the Cobalt-Rom website for details.
