 OK, I've managed to connect now.  Question: are you passing -m32 to
configure, or is automatic ?  I've just looked at my 'ppc' log for
1.0 and there isn't a '-m32' in it.  I can't see how it would do any
harm, but I thought we only specified ${BUILD32} in multilib books ?

 Anyway, errors referring to de_DE.UTF-8, catgets/de.msg with invalid
characters, stdlib/testmb2, perhaps even stdlib/tst-strtod variants,
are what we used to get for the 32-bit glibc on multilib, until we
put in the cross-compiling sed just before make check.

 It almost looks as if you've used some of the multilib build on a
32-bit processor.  I'm puzzled.
