We need to setup some 3.1.0 milestone tasks.

What would we like to add to this release or take away or improve?

Outside of upgrading some packages which we normally do, we’ll have some
toolchain upgrades which will bring some command changes elsewhere in the book.

There is GLIBC 2.20, GCC 4.9 and probably a binutils upgrade sometime.

Latest Systemd version adds more user/groups required from the system and adds
more daemons and may remove one or two or so, I haven’t looked at the
Changelogs.

Sysvinit book is probably straight forward with upgrades.

Some of these are already as tickets but we have these to look at:

GCC
GLIBC
BINUTILS
CHECK
Coreutils
Dbus
Dhcpcd
E2fsProgs
Eudev
File
Gettext
Grep
Iproute2 (for when we move to the 3.16 kernel)
Linux 3.16
KBD
LIbpipeline
Make
Man-Pages
Perl
Procps-NG
Systemd (216 is latest)
Tar
TCL
TZData
Util-Linux
XZ
Parted
Grub which I think is at 2.02 beta2

I’d like to add books for ARM targets. Community help with creating a table
with options required for the toolchain such as float, vfp, target-triplets and
any other options would be helpful.

I don’t know if we’ll get the simplify branch integrated into our books. It’s a
fight of making the xml readable or making editing easier. If we add ARM books,
it’ll be using the x86 common xml outside of different commands for installing
the kernel headers and different gcc configure options and a table with
variables to use through out the build for specific ARM options needed during
gcc configure. Otherwise, the ARM books will be using most of the same page
content as the x86 books. Just nothing arch specific from x86.

Is there any input with what others think would be good to add, improve, or
remove with some detailed explanation as to the purpose?

Sincerely,

William Harrington
