It's also what everybody who builds without following that hint is
doing, so you should be OK to allow it.

That's what I figured, but I was wondering if there was any kind of
good explanation for it. It seems odd when the second package that
you install overwrites stuff from the first one when they're both core
packages where the developers of each should be aware of each other
and what they're doing.
