There is no directory named pts in /dev. Only /dev/ptmx and all /dev/tty 's. When I create the directory pts as suggested in the solution to this problem on trac.cross-lfs.org/faq <http://trac.cross-lfs.org/faq> then It vanishes on reboot or when I try to mount it. - Jigslinx

That is correct, you may want to check your /lib/udev/devices to make sure pts is in that directory. Plus you should be getting some errors during your bootup, if /dev/pts is not there.
