This is an update on desktop problems on ppc64, if anybody cares ;)

1. Firefox-2.0 - useable[1] with the "standard" 32-bit-on-multilib
instructions in the cblfs wiki (I only looked at these in detail
when my 32-bit-on-x86_64 failed to build). The --build, --host, and
CONFIG_GUESS options are critical.

1A. Firefox is not buildable as 64-bit, some of the xpt code is not
present (David Woodhouse has a patch against 1.5, but it's probably
best regarded as alpha-quality at the momment).

2. gdb-6.5 - builds as biarch. Works for 32-bit, but unusable on
64-bit. I've tried applying most of the patches from fedora without
any effect, so for the moment this is not very useful.

3. strace-4.5.14 - a single install does now work for both sizes.

4. gimp-2.2.12 64-bit - in the absence of a debugger, I've been
trying to instrument this (it asks for insane amounts of memory
while loading the brushes). Looks like an argument should be passed
as 32-bits but has a couple of other bits set. I'm not close to
finding exactly where this is happening - the problem might be in
glib (I'm still on 2.10.3). Unless I comment further, assume this
needs to be built as 32-bit on ppc64.

5. libstdc++-v3 (or gcc-3.3.6 in general). Cannot be built from
recent versions of gcc on ppc64,
http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=23158
So far, I only need the 32-bit version of this for the binary
realplayer stuff - I'm using a version of libstdc++-v3 which I built
on ppc (the realplayer code is already binary, so a second binary
doesn't hurt so much).

Everything else which I use 'just works'. I'll put a hint up on my
uklinux.net page sometime, trying to list what is important for
getting the my multilib desktop working.

[1] Crashes with horrific regularity when scrolling down the page in
google news and wikipedia. The "oh, it crashed, would you like to
restore?" code works, but I can't recommend it for primetime on this
platform, unlike konqueror (e.g. I play rp audio from 64-bit
konqueror).
