Yes, if you want to. CLFS doesn't officially support UTF-8 (I've
written up ncursesw-5.5 somewhere on my
www.kenmoffat.uklinux.net/hints website [ can't be bothered to check
the filename! ], but clfs doesn't support UTF-8 in the console, and
'man' for UTF-8 is a problem (works in X with an add-on), but other
than that clfs is "better" (I feel more confidence in the clfs gcc,
and the packages are generally closer to the bleeding edge).

BTW, I don't know what the PrPMC part is, but I assume it's some
sort of embedded board or mini-ITX.

No, your i686-pc-linux-gnu TARGET is fine, but unless you change
the HOST to e.g. i686-cross-linux-gnu like the book says, you will
compile natively. Yes, for your choice of host and target you can
build natively, but that is not how the clfs book is set out, and
you are unlikely to successfully build the clfs book if you don't
have non-matching host and target.
