hm, at first: can you complain how do you configured staticly?
normally, when you setup the network card statically, then should it be  
working.
are you sure about the right address range, dns server and so on in your 
router network?
can you ping the router over ip? to you have some strange iptables rules 
(check iptables -L)?
and then, for dhcp ip address you need a dhcp-client program you can 
download it from: http://cblfs.cross-lfs.org/index.php/Dhcpcd 
<http://download.berlios.de/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-3.1.7.tar.bz2>
