The thesis objective is to explore the potential of a variety of satellite images as forest fuel moisture mapping tool over Canadian boreal forests or for mapping crop drought over Canadian Prairies. The images tested in the thesis will be NOAA-AVHRR, MODIS, RADARSAT-1 and RADARSAT-2. One of the thesis objectives will be to build an analytical model to estimate evapotranspiration from these satellite data.
The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and should have a good background in image processing and in remote sensing physics.
The thesis should begin as soon as possible.

L'objectif du projet de thèse est d'explorer le potentiel d'images de telédétection de nature variée dans la cartographie de l'etat hydrique
du combustible forestier dans le cas de forêts boréales ou des cultures dans le cas des Prairires canadiennes. Les images qui seront testées durant la thèse sont des images NOAA-AVHRR, MODIS, RADARSAT-1 et RADARSAT-2. En effet, chaque capteur a des avantages spécifiques et il a lieu de voir comment une approche multicapteur peut être utilisée. En particulier, le projet de thèse visera à développer un modèle analytique d'estimation de l'évapotranspiration utilisant ces données satellitaires.
Le candidat idéal doit posséder une grande curiosité scientifique et motivation pour la recherche. Avoir des notions sur les méthodes de traitement d'images et sur la physique de la télédétection sera considérée comme un atout.
