Rostislav: I haven't run a bunch of benchmarks to double-check this in detail, but just running a '(println "Hello")' shows a difference between 1.8 and 1.9, which is purely Clojure startup time. I don't see anything in your results that suggests the time difference is getting large with more computation, do you?
If it is all extra startup time, that could be due to loading spec and def'ing extra Clojure 1.9 Vars during initialization.
